Direct Sales Service
Buy our produce direct from the garden
For local neighbours who would like to buy our produce directly from us at the garden gate, we have begun our Direct Sales Service.
Here’s how it works, in three easy steps:
Each week we send out a pricelist for the week ahead, detailing what is available, what the prices are, and at what days and times collection is available.
Customers are then welcome to place an order for the week ahead by email, stating when they’d like to collect their produce.
We then pick and pack your vegetables ready for you to collect at your allotted time.
If this is a service that may interest you, please get in touch via our email address. We will add you to the mailing list and you will start receiving the pricelist each week.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How will I be able to pay?
Cash will be accepted upon collection.
Is this service open to all?
In theory, yes, but since our service is for collection-only, we expect it will be primarily suitable for our close neighbours in Fairlight and surrounding villages.
When will collections be available?
This will differ week-to-week, and will be detailed clearly on the pricelist. This is because as the days get longer, produce will wilt quicker and so needs collecting earlier, and conversely, as we move into autumn and winter, we can be more flexible with collection times. Generally collections can occur Monday to Friday, between 8am and 11am, provided that it isn’t too hot.
Will you deliver boxes?
No, for the time being our service requires that you come and collect from us. This is because we don’t have the time or the person-power to run a delivery service as things currently stand.
Is the contents of my order guaranteed when I place my order?
Unfortunately not. Sometimes we may have limited supply of certain products, and we will supply them to customers on a first-come-first-served basis.
Can I cancel an order? What happens if I can't collect my order?
If you would like to cancel an order and are able to let us know by 7am on the day of collection, then there is no problem. If however you fail to collect your order without notifying us by 7am on the day of collection, you will be charged for the order at your next collection.
Am I obliged to order every week? Am I obliged to order a certain quantity?
No. You're welcome to order as and when you like, and however much you'd like.
Why don’t you open a shop?
The main reason is because we don’t have access to electricity so we don’t have the means to run fridges and store vegetables for very long here at the garden.
Why don’t you operate a normal box scheme like Riverford?
This was our first intention when we started our project, and still perhaps a long-term goal! However, we quickly realised that we would have to grow a wide variety of produce and maintain a strict level of reliability in terms of product quantity, which we thought would be difficult since we were just starting out and learning a lot as we go. So we decided instead to focus primarily on leafy greens and salad crops, which isn’t quite enough on which to run a box scheme.
What is the advantage of your service over buying from a retailer?
The advantage is that you will receive your vegetables a matter of minutes after we have finished harvesting them, so they will be unbeatably fresh. Also, retailers may from time to time run out of certain products or not stock certain products at all, so our service allows you greater choice and more certainty of availabilities.
Will we still be able to buy your produce from your stockists?
Absolutely. It is really great that we are able to stock our stockists with our produce. They have big fridges, which means that our produce can stay fresher for longer there. Consequently, our stockists can have longer opening hours than our service will have, precisely because our produce cannot stay fresh for very long in our garden without refrigeration. Lastly, it also means that you have greater flexibility as a customer to, for instance, buy spontaneously, whereas our service requires orders in advance.
